Before we watch a film about one of America's most beloved poets of the natural world, we're going outside.
Join Logan Street Theater, Indiana Humanities and Noblesville Parks Foundation for an afternoon celebrating poetry, nature and 100 years of Forest Park.
We'll begin at 2 PM beneath the trees of Forest Park for an optional guided walk inspired by Indiana Humanities' Campfires program. Along the way, we'll pause to hear poetry, pay attention to the landscape around us and learn some of the story of Forest Park — including the people who worked together a century ago to preserve this place for generations of Noblesville residents to enjoy.
Then we'll make our way to Logan Street Theater for Mary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World, a new documentary about the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet whose life and work were shaped by long walks, careful observation and a profound relationship with the natural world.
Directed by Sasha Waters, the film draws from never-before-seen photographs, notebooks and correspondence from Oliver's archive, along with reflections from those who knew and admired her and readings of her work by Stephen Colbert, Lucy Dacus, Steve Buscemi, Oprah Winfrey and others.
