BLOOM + LIFT: A Celebration of Indiana Documentary Film

Join us for a special evening celebrating Indiana filmmakers and the stories they're bringing to life!

We're excited to present BLOOM, the 2024 PitchDox Grand Prize-winning documentary, which made its festival debut at Indy Shorts International Film Festival this summer. From an award-winning pitch to a finished film on the big screen, BLOOM is a wonderful example of what's possible when Indiana filmmakers are given the support to tell their stories.

A little more about BLOOM: After failing to beat his own record for America's tallest sunflower, Ukrainian immigrant Alex Babich pushes for a Guinness World Record - all while balancing the needs of his family and the challenges of nature in Northeast Indiana.

The evening will also feature all five films from LIFT 2026, a short documentary initiative presented by Hoodox and Indiana Humanities. Each filmmaker received a $5,000 award to create a five-minute documentary exploring stories, people, and perspectives from across Indiana.

From a beloved Indianapolis music venue and a historic bed-and-breakfast to a neighborhood seamstress, a scientist studying the health of our waterways, and an independent bookstore owner who's spent her life connecting people through stories, these five short documentaries celebrate the fascinating people, places, and communities that make Indiana special. The five LIFT 2026 films include:

Far Out Frequencies

The B&B on East 8th Street

SILO

The Water Readers

The Brain Lair

In less than sixty minutes total, these six films offer a glimpse into the creativity, talent, and storytelling happening right here in our state.

Following the screening, stick around for a special Q&A with the filmmakers! Hear more about the stories behind the films, the creative process, and what it takes to bring these Indiana documentaries to the screen.

Whether you're a documentary enthusiast, a supporter of local film, or simply curious about the stories being told in your own backyard, we'd love to have you join us.

Seating is limited. Buy your tickets today!
